Teenage Cancer Trust Comedy Night Does Not Present The Death Of Jeffery Archer

ANORAK hates stand-up comedy. The only two shows we ever saw were poor man’s Sid James, Arthur Smith, hosting a gig at Jongleurs (horrible humour; room full of boozed-up estate agents), and Jerry Sadowtiz, who seduced us to the cheap seats on the back of a sketch called “The Death of Jeffrey Archer”, in which two Glaswegians spot Archer in his jail cell and spend a long, long time telling him how he is going to die at their hands. But that was it.

So. A ticket to the Teenage Cancer Trust Comedy Night promsied little mirth. And it delivered. Angelos Epithemiou is a Benny skit; Greg Davies wants to the fourth Goodie – and three were three too many; James Corden is lairy and laddish; Jason Manford is a children’s entertainer with a sex life; John Bishop is too subtle for the big stage; Kevin Bridges sets up the pins and then misses them with his glass comedy hammer; and Miranda Hart, who, though talented, is happy to be victim of misogyny.

Don’t bother going to the show. Just give the money straight to the charity. It’s a brilliant cause, and one we’ve supported…
