‘Explosion’ Rips Roof Off Southwest Airlines Plane

by | 2nd, April 2011

“JUST unreal. All of a sudden there’s like a little explosion. Sounded like an explosion at least. All of a sudden there’s a sunroof in the middle of the plane.”

So says a passenger aboard Southwest AirlinesFlight 812 from Phoenix to Sacramento.

Turns out that “aircraft skin fatigue”caused a hole to be ripped in the fuselage of the Boeing 737.

The plane landed safely. And everyone was OK.  Which goes to prove that aircraft roofs are overrated and unnecessary.

Rumours that Ryan Air is to charge more for convertible planes are thought to be wide of the mark…
