NOW Watch*: Anorak’s look at the word “NOW” in headlines in the national news.

Today, the Mail leads with:

“NOW HALF OF BRITAIN HAS LOST ITS WEEKLY BIN ROUND”

Tsk! Now what they only gone and done, then?

News is that:

For the first time, more than half of households now have to wait two weeks to have their bins emptied.

For the first time? What, including the strikes in the 1970s?

And rubbish is being collected weekly. One week, the binmen collect the recycling stuff. The next week they collect other waste.

So. Weekly bin rounds have not been lost. Now d’yer see..?

Now Watch charts the rise of the word “now” being used by media to highlight a perceived litany of affronts to humanity.
