Manchester City Beat Manchester United In FA Cup Photos: The Banner Is No Dead Yet

MANCHESTER City have beaten Manchester United in the semi-final of the FA Cup. As United’s fans make their way home from Wembley on the London Underground, City fans journey back north wondering if this is the year that banner is put away. You know the banner. It’s the one at Old Trafford that ticks over each year City go without a trophy.

In 1976, City won the League Cup. And then they won… nothing. United fans – the ones with memories longer than a Sky Sports highlights package – will need no reminding that before Alex Ferguson changed it all, United had not won the league for 26 years.

City still have to win the FA Cup to put the banner to bed. But if they lose the final to either Bolton or Stoke,  the ingenious United fan who owns that banner will take out his paintbrush and roll on the clock…
