Britain Needs A 420 Movement To Legalise Weed: Photos Of Colorado’s Marijuana Protests

by | 22nd, April 2011

AT 4:20 pm, 10,000 weed smokers (or was it 15,000? I forget) massed in the Norlin Quad a at the University of Colorado’s Boulder campus to create a fog of smoke. It’s annual marijuana day, people. Smoking weed is not for the individual – in the US it’s an organised event.

Will the protest and others like it achieve much? Smoking weed is not about achieving – it’s about doing not very much at all.

The Boulder Daily Camera meets one toker called Robert Loddin:

“I am smoking weed like it’s oxygen.”

Stick that on a T-shirt and the marketing department can kick into gear.

Anyhow, how did the event go down? With thousands of people getting wasted and dodging boredom, there must have been trouble?

Commander Tim McGraw of the CUPD dispatch casts an eye at his notes:

“We had somebody who appeared to be under the influence of drugs and crashed into the sheriff’s [unoccupied] car, and he went to jail, but that was it.”

In Denver, the 420 movement to legalize marijuana, was marked by another big crowd.

Organizers in Denver claimed from the Civic Center stage a crowd size of 50,000, but police put their estimate between 15,000 and 20,000.

When it’s foggy, it’s hard to keep count.

Legalise weed. Let the people decide what they want to do. Their creativity is boundless:
