Madeleine McCann: Introducing German Child Killer Martin N

by | 8th, May 2011

MADELEINE McCann: Anorak’s at–a-glance look at the missing child in the news: Introducing a new suspect to, coincidentally, coincide with the release of Kate McCann’s new book called Madeleine. Meet Martin N.

Daily Express front page: “MADDIE LINK TO GERMAN CHILD KILLER”

A news suspect is delivered to the masses:

THIS is the man who has confessed to one child murder and is now facing questioning over the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

The 40-year-old German youth worker, who we can name only as Martin N, is being questioned over at least three child murders and 40 suspected attacks on children across Europe.

But what is his link to Our Maddie?

He bears a striking resemblance to the photofit of a man seen holding a child in his arms just minutes after Madeleine was snatched from Praia da Luz.

Does he? That photofit had no face (see gallery of suspects below). But, Martin N is, like the drawing, white with dark hair. But why else is he in the frame?

Private detectives working for Kate and Gerry McCann will now try to discover if he was in Portugal when Madeleine vanished from the family’s apartment at the Algarve resort on May 3, 2007.

Could he have been? Well police will question him over the murders of
Three boys – Dennis Klein, 9, in Germany; Nicky Verstappen in Holland; Jonathan Coulom, 11, in France; and:

…six-year-old blond German boy Renee Hasse, snatched from the beautiful Amoreira beach near Aljezur on the Algarve in June 1996. The beach is some half an hour’s drive from Luz.

And:

They believe Martin N was in Portugal that summer and are checking his passport and bank accounts to build up a complete picture of his movements over the past 20 years across Europe and South America.

Is that what German detectives believe, or is that what the Daily Express says they believe in order to link him to Madeleine McCann? Police are checking his movements over the last 20 years, we learn. The German police make no mention of Our Maddie.

And aren’t all his alleged victims boys? Luckily, the Express “clinical psychologist Ron Bracey” on hand to explain:

He said: “With paedophiles the gender of the child isn’t really that relevant. It’s quite possible he could have killed girls and boys.”

German newspaper Bild tells us (translation by Google):

Martin N. (40) is one of the worst child serial killer in Germany. The beast has been killed to have Stefan year († 13), Dennis Rostele († 8) and Dennis Klein († 9). In at least 40 cases being investigated him for sexual abuse.

No mention is made of Hasse in the report. And Martin N has confessed to three murders.

It is all about the murder of Ricky Verstappen († 11) in the Netherlands and Jonathan Coulum († 11) in France. In both cases are similar Tatmuster before, but still denies Martin N. something to do with these crimes have.

OK, you get the gist.

There is no link to Madeleine McCann – unless you read the Express.

McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “Our private investigators became aware of this man a month ago and they will be liaising with the German investigators. The investigation is at an early stage.”

Well, quite. But the Express uses the German child killer to link to:

The thought that Madeleine may have been abducted by a paedophile, and is possibly still being abused, is Kate McCann’s worst fear, according to a newspaper interview yesterday.

This interview in the Sun.

The Mail also has two potential suspects:

Two convicted paedophiles have been questioned by British police over the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Charles O’Neill, 48, and William Lauchlan, 34, were jailed last year over sex attacks on children and the murder of a mother who had threatened to expose them.

The Mail on Sunday has learned they were interviewed in prison by detectives after inquiries revealed they were touring Spain, and possibly Portugal, on false passports when Madeleine vanished in May 2007.

We knew that in June 2010.

Police interest in O’Neill, in particular, was heightened because of his resemblance to a thin, spotty suspect seen hanging around the holiday complex in Praia da Luz on the Algarve shortly before three-year-old Madeleine vanished.

And:

The development came as, for the first time, Madeleine’s mother Kate described in chilling detail the moment she discovered her daughter was missing from her bed at their holiday apartment.

Such are the facts.

Right now there are no suspects in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. But that is not to say the media is not looking to link any paedophile or child killer that has been to Portugal with her vanishing…

Composite file e-fits of potential suspects which have built up since Madeleine McCann went missing two years ago. From left, a suspect described by Jane Tanner, one of the friends on holiday with the McCanns in May 2007, of a man walking with a child in his arms away from the holiday apartment where Madeleine was sleeping on the night she disappeared, image of a suspects face and a full length image made public in January last year based on a statement given by Gail Cooper, a British holidaymaker. Black and white computer-generated e-fits of two suspicious men seen hanging around Praia da Luz before Madeleine went missing which were released from official police files after Portuguese authorities shelved their investigation but which were never made public by detectives and a e-fit of a suspect released as part of a new TV documentary to mark the second anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance. The artist's impression shows a pock-marked and 'very ugly' man who appeared to be watching the apartment where the little girl was staying with her family on the day before she vanished.
