IN Terry Pratchett: Choosing to Die, Peter Smedley, 71, committed assisted suicide. He had motor neurone disease. He had gone to Switzerland to die at an euthanasia clinic.

The Daily Mail sees its chance to hit the BBC. It talks of hundreds of complaints. Complaints are the barometer of righteousness. The more complains, the more wrong the thing is and the more demanding of more outrage.

The money quote soon comes:

Nola Leach, chief executive of CARE, said: ‘I rather thought that we had moved on from the days when people gathered in crowds to watch other people die.

Alongside this story on the Mail’s website is another tale. This one yells:

Dragons’ Den star Duncan Bannatyne tweets about ‘considering suicide’ after marriage woes.

Might his be the first Twatted suicide? Call Terry Pratchett. And get Jan Moir on line 2…
