Royal Ascot 2011 In Photos: Ladies Wear Hats – Horses Favour Jockeys

ASCOT: Day 1 – hats. Royal Ascot is all about the hats. Why the horses don’t wear hats, we can only wonder at. Perhaps they’d eat them. Perhaps they think the jockeys are hats?

Veronicas Voronin wore a box of used tissues on her noggin. Tracy Rose went for the over-starched rara skirt. Anneka Tanaka-Svenska wore the kind of thing children dread sitting behind at a panto. It was huge, long and liable to fall into your lap and knock your box of Revels over.

Our eye fell upon the annual giver of joy that is HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein. Princess Bint. Princess. Bint. let’s leave it at that.

On the course, the jackets favoured little hats that matched their shiny shirts. Between the legs the riders horses over jodhpurs…
