Lady GaGa Slammed Over Japan Wristbands: Pseud Sued

by | 27th, June 2011

LADY GaGa is so relevant that the people Japan are relying on her to pull them through a post-tsunami slump. The fan of the British class system is  staging a benefit concert in Tokyo. She wants impoverished Westerners to help the booming East by  holidaying in the land that sells electric gadgets and cars you can no longer afford. Right now, she’s in Tokyo:

“I can’t say enough to people all over the world that the majority of Japan right now, Japan in general, is very safe. It’s fine to come here. It’s beautiful… The most important thing, and the best thing, we could do for Japan right now.

We hear you, GaGa (Japanese for La-La).

The singer received a certificate from the commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency on Thursday, thanking her for her support and money-raising efforts.

For anyone unable to afford the airfare and the face-meltingly expensive Tokyo hotels,  there’s the chance to help Japan by investing in a “We Pray for Japan” wristband. Lady Gaga has been flogging these wristband since March 2011. As she said:

“I designed a Japan Prayer Bracelet. Buy it/Donate here and ALL proceeds will go to Tsunami Relief Efforts. Go Monsters.”

But one Michigan-based 1-800-LAW-FIRM alleges that Lady Gaga does not send all the moneis rised form bands of good to the needy. Of the five dollars paid out, $3.99 went towards the shipping and handling. It is suing GaGa and her co-defnedets for $5m. (You can read the law suit here.)

Gossip Cop reports:

The lawsuit says Lady Gaga violated a number of federal racketeering laws as well as consumer protection laws from the alleged scam.

“I’m suing Lady Gaga simply to hold her accountable for giving the money that she was raising for charity to the cause that she was trying to raise it for,” said Ari Kresch, a 1-800-Law-Firm attorney.

His colleague Alyson Oliver adds, “When we tried to communicate with the defendants in this lawsuit, all we got was, ‘well, some of the money is being retained, but we don’t really know how much.’”

It is all exciting to think of GaGa taking the stand and being labelled a con artist. But the claim is just that – a claim –  and her website makes mention of the shipping costs. The real wonder is that anyone does anything a rich celeb tells them to…
