The News Of The World RIP: Rivals Gloat But You’ll Miss It

by | 8th, July 2011

LADIES and gentlemen, you have been watching the death of the News of The World. Now it’s going, you’ll miss it. Here’s what the less popular British newspapers are saying about the end of a paper that made money and sold in the millions:

“THE PAPER THAT DIED OF SHAME” – The shameless Daily Mail mocks

“HACKED TO DEATH” – Daily Mirror adheres to tabloid mantra ‘If it bleeds – it leads’

“Newspaper sacrificed to save one woman” – The Independent makes the decision not to sack Rebekah Brooks sound noble

“Goodbye cruel world” – The increasingly tabloid-styled Telegraph opts for a pun

“The scandal that closed the News of The World” – The Guardian uses lots of words where the paper it speaks of would have used one: GOTCHA!; SCREWED!

“SHUT IN SHAME” – So says the Daily Express – the paper owned by Richard Desmond (also owner of Fantasy Channel porn; OK! magazine; Big Brother)

“End of The World -” – The Scotsman and Belfast Telegraph go for the obvious – and fail to see the irony of how one paper’s demise has set the news agenda for the rest (over war in Afghanistan, Greece’s bankruptcy and the EU – because it’s easier)

“WORLD’S END” – The Sun nails the death of its sister organ in two words

“HARRY POTTER SAY’ HALLOW”‘ – Daily Star carries on regardless
