Who Killed The Hawley Lake Pony?

by | 11th, July 2011

WHO killed the pony by drowning it in Hampshire? The Daily Mirror calls them “baying thugs“. The Daily Mail calls them “gypsies“. Metro calls them “travellers“.

The pony was hooked up to a trap. The story goes that as many as a dozen people cajoled the creature into Hawley Lake? There is mud at the bottom of the lake. The mud will drag you down.

Someone dived in to help. The pony kicked him. He had to be rescued and taken to hospital.

News is that this pony was one of three on the scene.

Alan Smith, spokesman for Hampshire Police, says:

“We know they made an attempt to push a second pony into the water, but the animal broke free. They re-tethered it to the trap, clambered aboard the two remaining traps and cantered off.”

The interesting part is that while the woman on the local TV news speculate on it being an accident, the BBC tells us:

The one that died was microchipped, but had recently been sold at market and the chip had not been updated.

What are the odds on that, eh?
