Can Belfast’s Rioting And Orangemen Marches Become A Tourist Attraction? Photos

by | 12th, July 2011

HOW did you mark the The Twelfth celebrations? It’s the day when Belfast’s Orangemen arrive like Clockwork in their bowler hats to commemorate the ultra violence of the 1690 Battle of the Boyne. On that day the Protestant King William’s men beat the Catholic King James’ men.

Thousands of Orangemen and loyalists marched in Northen Ireland. Others lit bonfires. Nationalists fought with police in west Belfast.

Is rioting and antagonism a form of entertainment? Is brawling just what Northern Irleand does best? Maybe buses can be sorted out for tourists keen to see the inevitable troubles every July 12…?
