French Atheltes Fight On Track (Video)
WITH the British football season not yet alive, we look to Olympic athletes Mehdi Baala and Mahiedine Mekhissi Benabbad to enagage in a spot of handbags at last Friday night’s Diamond League meeting in Monaco.
They do not disappoint. Sure, a bit of spitting and a Wayne Rooney-style bout of industrial language would more satisfy keen footy fans, but to the casual observer it will do.
Baala, who finished ninth, two places ahead of Mekhissi, in the 1500 metres, said:
“I went to comfort him after the race as he looked to be in trouble. But he said ‘If I don’t say hello, I have my reasons’ and put his forehead against mine.”
The French Athletics Federation has suspended the pair and forfeited their appearance money for their “unspeakable behaviour”.
Football fans are more excited than before about the Olympic Games…
