PROOF at last that Earth has been visited by aliens. Boffins have discovered the unmistakable markings of a flying saucer (were thy all designed by George Lucas Industries) that landed on the sea floor on the Gulf of Bothnia between Sweden and Finland.

Peter Lindberg and his team were looking for a champagne-laden wreck when the made their amay-zing discovery.

Says he:

“You see a lot of weird stuff in this job, but during my 18 years as a professional I have never seen anything like this. The shape is completely round.”

The Sun tells us:

This amazing sonar image appears to show Han Solo’s Star Wars spaceship the Millennium Falcon at the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

The Telegraph quotes him thus:

“We had been looking for sunken treasure of the Sea of Bothnia in the northern Baltic Sea. We had been for Champagne, Wine and Cognac laying in the holds of small Swedish merchant ships sunk by the Germans during the first world war. But in June we picked up this image during a sonar survey of the sea floor. I have never seen anything like it despite hundreds of hours of viewing sonar images. Unfortunately we don’t have the money to investigate further.”

The Mail adds:

The ocean exploration team which found it claims that the earth around the craft has been scarred, suggesting it has tried to move around.

Thy travelled millions of miles in space only to be outwitted by mud?

Zog98H: I can’t understand what it is captain?!
Captain Xyipzzzowaop: It’s a substance the likes of which we have never seen before!
Zog98H: Should we true to land on it, captain?
Xyipzzzowaop: Yes. Good idea.

The Mail then chimes in with:

Lead researcher Peter Lindberg also suggested that another explanation could be that it was ‘a new Stonehenge’.

Someone get making the fridge magnets pronto. And tell the Star Wars fans that Hans Solo is drowned and Chewie smells of wet dog…

PS – there is money in old booze:

The most famous wreck so far is with out doubt the small ketch “Jönköping” which was sunken on the 3 November 1916 by the German Uboat U 22 with 3000 bottles of Heidsieck & Co MONOPOLE Gôut Américain champagne from 1907, and 67 barrels of Bisquite & Duboché Cognac, each barrel containing 600 litres in her holds. Some of the champagne bottles has been sold for as much as EUR 20 000 per bottle.

No surprise, perhaps, that the aliens are after their share of the booty…
