Obama Debated Hurricane Irene Out Of Existence: Hurricane Hype In 100 Photos

HURRICANE Irene hit the USA. Bits of America are changed. By the time the hurricane hit New York it had been downgraded to a tropical storm. Still, 12 people died. Between three are four million people lost power.

But what was unusual was that this hurricane was going to hit New York. And in New York live lots and lots of media workers. This hurricane would be the most talked about hurricane of all time.

One Vanity Fair writer, a James Wolcott, would cheer on this hurricane like he has cheered on other hurricanes that hit places in the world far removed from his desk and cats.

The hype was not exactly unaided by President Barack Obama who actually said:

“All indications point to this being a historic hurricane.”

Not a dangerous one. An historic one. And when history comes to be written they will say that at the noteworthy time Obama was in the White House and not on holiday. The Hurricane would be debated out of existence…
