Anti-Smoking Lobby Forces Shirly The Orangutan To Quit

by | 12th, September 2011

THE anti-smoking lobby have forced Shirley the orangutan to quit the dreaded (surely sublime?– ed) weed.

Melaka Zoo Director Ahmad Azhar Mohammed says there will be no more cigarettes for Shirley because “smoking is not normal behaviour for orangutans“.

But living in a caged compound is? Now Shirley can’t puff in her glorified cell.

“I would say she is not addicted but she might have formed a habit after mimicking human beings who were smoking around her.”

Is smoking normal behaviour for humans? No. It is normalised behaviour. And it can be normalised for oragutans, too. As can drinking booze, mooning from car windows and dating Joey Barton.
