Cath Elliott Says That ‘Average Men’ Are Potential Rapists Looking For An Excuse

by | 5th, October 2011

CATH Elliott is writing on pro-rape Facebook groups. She is not in favour.  On the Guardian, we learn that Elliott is “a feminist and a trade union activist. She is currently working in local government. She posts on Cif as Mswoman”.

One part of her lament stands out: it’s this apart where she seems to suggest that all men are potential rapists only prevented from attacking women by the fear of being captured and punished by the law:

What Facebook and others who defend this pernicious hate speech don’t seem to get is that rapists don’t rape because they’re somehow evil or perverted or in any way particularly different from than the average man in the street: rapists rape because they can. Rapists rape because they know the odds are stacked in their favour, because they know the chances are they’ll get away with it.

So. Not perverts, then. Not villains. Just men.  Or women.
