Coronation Street’s Kevin Webster Arrested For Alleged Sex Offences

by | 6th, October 2011

WAAAAH, waw whoa wha-whoa-waaaah… yep, that famous brass that signals that start of an episode of Coronation Street is really quite difficult to write down.

Not as difficult though, as the morning that Corrie star Michael Le Vell, who plays Weatherfield veteran Kevin Webster, is having.

He’s been arrested by police on suspicion of sexually abusing a schoolgirl.

Apparently, Le Vell was taken from his home in Greater Manchester and questioned for 8 hours over some allegations made by a teenage girl. He was eventually released on bail.

Police said in a statement:

“A 46-year-old man from Hale has been arrested on suspicion of a historic sexual offence. He has been bailed pending inquiries.”

That’s nice isn’t it? It’s worth pointing out, before his lawyers get too jumpy, that he’s strenuously denying these allegations. Okay? See for yourself. In a statement, Le Vell said:

“I strenuously deny these allegations and will do everything in my power to prove my innocence.”

One source says:

“Michael has been really bowled over by these accusations. It has knocked him for six. He is a devoted family man, and this has made his world fall apart.

“He leads a quiet life and doesn’t court the celebrity lifestyle. He is determined to carry on working and to clear his name. But at the moment his mind is scrambled.”

This trouble wouldn’t have started if he’d kept that marvellous moustache of his. He’s only got himself to blame really.
