Sir Johnathan Ive heads mixed cast of New Year’s Honours List (in full)

by | 31st, December 2011

THE News Year’s Honours list in full. Yesterday, we could not tell you that Steve Jobs’s pal Jonathan Ive – the designer of the iPad, iPod and iMac – has been knighted in the New Year’s Honours List. The news carried an embargo. We had to wait until today. Of course, this arcane idiocy is not helped by the fact that newspaper publish yesterday and you can see the front pages on the internet – ones carrying photos of Helen Bonham Carter CBE, Gerald Ronson CBE and Chris Preddie CBE. It’s just further proof that news has moved faster than they who seek to control it. You might have read that Jonathan Ive, the British designer whom Jobs described as his “spiritual partner”, had been made a KBE on your smart phone or tablet. If you need proof of the value of Ive’s work, you need not look far.

Sir Jonathan Ive, 44, leads the headlines. Others have been honoured for their services to the country:

Paul Ruddock – knighted for services to… Well, he gav the Tory Party £500,000 since 2003. He becomes a Knight Bachelor for services to the arts – Sir Paul is a City trader who became chairman of the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Peter Bazalgette – owner of Endemol, who made TV’s Big Brother.

Gerald Ronson – get a CBE. Sure, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison and fined £5 million for his tole in the Guinness scandal – convicted of conspiring to create a false market, false accounting and one of theft. He was fined £5million and sentenced to a year in jail, but freed after six months for good behaviour. He’s raised loadsa money for charity while remaining stinking rich.

A Cabinet Office spokesman said that Mr Ronson, 72, had donated more than £25 million to good causes through the Ronson Foundation. He is also involved in the running of a number of charities, including the NSPCC, of which he is a vice-president.

Chris Preddie – OBE for man who created the Making Dreams Reality charity to deter young people from a criminal life after his brother was shot dead in a gangland feud. Two of his cousins, Danny and Ricky Preddie, killed ten-year-old Damilola Taylor.

Richard Taylor OBE, Damilola father is unimpressed. OBE in last year’s New Year’s Honours List, said: “To be honoured with such a prestigious award when there are hard-working people who have lost their loved ones doing similar work in the community isn’t right.”

Helena Bonham Carter – a CBE for the actress who says: “Does it mean I get to command? Because at the moment it’s my four-year-old daughter who does the commanding in our household.”
