by | 5th, January 2012

MEMBERS of the Ava Guarani ethnic group have been evicted from Uruguay square in Asuncion, Paraguay. The Ava Guarani people had been occupying Uruguay square for the last seven months, demanding the government of current Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo honor its promise to buy them 8,000 hectares of land in the department of San Pedro (about 220 miles north of Asuncion), an agreement made two years ago.
