West Midlands Police beat up innocent black man and called him a ‘f***ing nigger’
WHILE illiberal anti-racist seek out racism in the dust of football, Don Lorenzo was at Birmingham Crown Court telling the judge of his 2007 arrest for a crime her did not commit and how the West Midlands police beat him up and called a f***ing nigger. Don Lorenzo is black. You might recall his name from his time as a roadie for The Clash – he sang on the hit I Fought The Law And The Law Won.
Recorder Adrian Jack awarded Lorenzo damages of £17,000 – including £5,000 in aggravated damage. The case cost each side and estimated £50,000. The judge awarded Mr Lorenzo 100% costs agaisnt the police. This has cost the taxpayer £100,000.
His solicitor Nick Turner puns:
“An innocent father was dealt with in a deplorable way and that was partly to do with the colour of his skin. The case against the police was black and white and the jury rightly found in Mr Lorenzo’s favour.”
It was on November 20, 2007, when Mr Lorenzo’s daughter Kaya, then 16, called the police. She alleged that he dad had hit her. He hadn’t. Police arrived at the flat in Edgbaston, Birmingham. Then police then attacked Mr Lorenzo. They punched him in the, dreagged him down stiars and continued the assault at Bournville Lane Police Station. His ordeal lasted more than 23 hours.
Said Don Lorenzo after the case:
All along I realised what was going on and that my action was against all the odds. I am a realist and I knew that there was just me saying that 19 police officers were wrong. I was acquitted in the criminal courts and this case was no different. The police officers have been shown to be racist. They were shown to have called me a f***ing nigger when I was on the floor outside my home. They continually racially abused me as they dragged me down the stairs. But justice has now been done with the jury finding in my favour and the judge awarding substantial damages.”
