INSIDE the Costa Concordia – in photos. Eleven bodies have been recovered from the Costa Concordia – five were in the restaurant on Deck 4 — and two others very close by. The restaurants is now 2 meters under water. Divers have an unenviable job of searching for bodies in the murky brown water where visibility is down to 4 feet.

Meanwhile, Italy is getting to grips with Francesco Schettino, the Costa Concordia’s captain who fell into a lifeboat and was heard being told by Captain Gregorio Maria De Falco, “Get the f*** back on board!”

The Italian media sees emblems of national identiry in both men:

“It’s the eternal struggle between a certain type of Italy, a bit approximate and slovenly and the other face of our country, the one that takes command with a stiff spine and a sense of duty” – Mauro Tedeschini of the local La Nazione newspaper.

“Even if only half of it is true, we are nevertheless in the presence of an Italian that we cannot pretend we don’t know. More full of himself than sure of himself. Unaware of the duties of his office. Someone who creates havoc simply out of bravado and then tries to hide it with the mantra “Everything’s fine, no problem”, even when the ship is sinking… It’s not Schettino himself who worries me. It’s the Schettino in me” – Massimo Gramelini of La Stampa.

Meanwhile, the words have been immoraglsied on Costa Concordia T-shirts:
