Joey Barton champion free speech by calling Madonna a slapper – the misogynist martyr

by | 10th, February 2012

HOW was Joey Barton’s week? Barton is the QPR player and self-styled role model with an active twitter account he hopes to help build the Barton legacy.  Yet to tweet from the pitch, Barton, nonetheless, offers key live observations on cultural moments. This week, Barton said of Madonna at the Super Bowl show:

“If she’s got her beaver out in a leotard at her age, I’m going to bed.”

Labelling her #oldslappersinging, Barton added:

“Its not right or sexy madge. Get ur fanny away.”

Barton then spotted David Beckham’s new knickers range for H&M:

“Do one Becks…They cost about 1p to make in a sweat shop in the 3rd world… is there no limit to what ‘Brand Beckham’ will endorse for a pound note?”

The tin lid on Barton’s week was when he declared that calling a middle-aged mother a slapper and Beckham an exploiter of the poor was the apogee of human rights. It marka him out as a champion of free speech:

I will gladly go to jail for a month, in the name of free speech. I have no problem with what I said. Make me a martyr…….

Barton then went on to slam Patrick Barclay for his tweet:

If that comment is correct, which I am led to believe it is. Any respect I had for @paddybarclay will cease

What of free speech, Joey?

After Madonna… Beckham… and Barclay… what’s the next top target for Barton, speaker of truth to power? Will he say something about Islam, make a racist joke or something else that challenges the meaning of free speech..?
