Ravel Morrison’s homophobic twitter slur is an unfair cop?

WHAT news of former Manchester United teenager Ravel Morrison, offloaded to West Ham United?

Well, the 19-year-old has been charged by the FA over this allegedly homophobic Tweet:

“crack head ? Go suck out u little f*ggot your a guy that talks if u see me you try slap me I’m in manchester every week.”

Morrison says the tweet was in response to racist tweets he himself had received from Man Utd fans.

Is being a victim of racism, in this case alleged, an excuse?

The FA says no:

“West Ham United’s Ravel Morrison has been charged under FA Rule E3 for use of abusive and/or insulting words including a reference to a person’s sexual orientation.”

But Morrison wasn’t at work when he made the tweet? Are footballers never off duty, always on the pitch, even when sat at home tweeting? Why has the FA got involved with this? Homophobia is no different to any other form of prejudice. It’s pathetic. But the FA has an agenda. It ans’ to kick homophobia out of football’s macho culture. Is Morrison just unlucky..? Have the people who used twitter to call for Emma West to be raped and murdered been given a yellow card at their places of work?

If the FA is serious about kicking out homophobia it should take a look at the romanticised uber-masculine world of professional football.
