PETER TAYLOR (2000)

PEDIGREE
Won four England caps, all while at third division Crystal Palace. Scored the winning goal on his debut. In 1996 England manager Glenn Hoddle invited him to take charge of the Under-21 side, which he did with great success until Wilkinson ousted him. Later he had another successful spell with the Under-21s.

DISTINCTIVE FEATURE: His impression of Norman Wisdom, performed on numerous occasions including live on ITV’s The Big Match.

“OUR BOYS” FACTOR
No military connections, but described Adam Crozier’s invitation to take charge of England as “the best phone call I’d ever got”.

RECORD
One game. One defeat

Highlight: Making David Beckham captain.
