Alan Hansen: Why Manchester City and Manchester United will win the Premier League

by | 5th, March 2012

ALAN Hansen does not spend all week slumped on the Match of The Day sofa until the famous theme tune erupts and he dangles into life, the golf club Authority to wax knowledgeable over the replays. He spends some of his working week writing for the Daily Telegraph. And it turns out that Hansen is every bit as knowing after the event on the telly as he is in print. His is the scatter cushion approach to punditry. So. What does Alan Hansen think of the Premier League title race? Is it Manchester United or Manchester City for the title?

Hansen, August 7, 2011:

Normally, it would be wise not to take that much notice of the Community Shield. Normally, it would do little to alter the course of the season. Normally, it is a game of little significance. On Sunday, though, Manchester United changed all that. Sunday’s victory managed to change everything dramatically…That their rivals are not nearly so settled simply makes this United’s title to lose…

Hansen, October 24, 2011:

Manchester United have been written off many times before and proved their doubters wrong, but Manchester City genuinely now have absolutely everything in place to win the Premier League and that was always the reality even before their incredible 6-1 win at Old Trafford. The title is now City’s to lose…

Hansen, March 5, 2012:

They have also been hammered 6-1 by City and suffered an early Champions League exit, but while those defeats and setbacks would send a lot of teams under, United have picked themselves up and got on with it and they just keep getting results. That is why I believe that United just have the edge and, if I had to back one of them to win the league from this point, I would favour them…

Such is the insight….
