TO Bristol Crown Court, where amateur footballer Lewis Hunt, 20, is explaining why he bit off a large chunk of 19-year-old Stuart Taylor’s ear. The pair were both playing for Banwell Reserves against Easton-in-Gordano when Taylor took exception to Hunt’s alleged reluctance to pass the ball to him.

Banwell – who  needed to win to secure promotion – were 4-3 up after star player Mr Taylor bagged a hat-trick.

When challenged, Hunt reacted with extreme violence.

Says Taylor:

“After he ran off I put my hand up to my face and I could feel something dripping. I realised I had blood coming out of me. One of my teammates then pointed to the floor and said ‘there’s your ear’. I was totally shocked.” The referee red-carded both players and abandoned the match – awarding it to Easton and shattering Banwell’s promotion dream.

Hunt has been sentenced to 21 months in a young offender’s institute. He vows never to play football again – unless he gets really good at it, discovers twitter and is billed as the New Joey Barton and QPR come calling…
