Man loses toe on Nottingham escalator – ban non-leather uppers now!

THE man trapped on the escalator at Nottingham’s West End Arcade has lost a toe.

One eyewitness, shop owner David Rose, says:

“I realised he was in a lot of pain – he was trapped and people were trying to cut him free.”

Nuri Zeglm, owner of Safari Shoes, tells ThisIsNottingham:

“We heard some screaming for help – and we saw a man on the escalator with about three people trying to help him. Somebody had stopped it but he couldn’t get his foot out. He was screaming in agony.”

The question we all want to know is: what was he wearing on his feet? We;d wager it was not smart brogue or Wellington, staples of empire. If was something with a soft toe, faddish and Continental in origins.

One good thing to coem of this might be that flip-flops in town are outlawed. Footwear fads are a danger to your health (see cloggs, flippers and  winkle pickers).
