Azhar Ahmed – a stupid victim of the State’s racial prejudices

by | 18th, March 2012

AZHAR Ahmed of Dewsbury, Yorkshire, is in the news. He’s been arrested and charged with a  “racially aggravated public order offences” for commenting on Facebook:

People gassin’ about the deaths of soldiers. What about the innocent families who have been brutally killed… The women who have been raped… The children who have been sliced up…! The enemy’s were the Taliban not innocent harmful familys. All soldiers should DIE and got to HELL. THE LOWLIFE FOKKIN SCUM! got a problem go and cry at your soldiers grave & wish them hell because thats is where she is going”

For that odious, badly made point Azhar Ahmed has been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence. How is it racist? Is it because Ahmed has an Easten name? Is bias and hate inherent in name – as Richard Imgram told Guardian readers:

I have developed a habit when confronted by letters to the editor in support of the Israeli government to look at the signature to see if the writer has a Jewish name. If so, I tend not to read it.

On Tuesday March 20, Ahmed will be at Dewsbury Magistrates Court.

The police say it is a “racially aggravated public order offence”. The police are always keen to brandish their anti-racist credentials.

In which case the police may care to look at this site:  https://www.facebook.com/AzharAhmedScum. The English Defence League are holding a demo at Ahmed’s trial.

Remember that a police spokesperson said of the charge (via):

“He didn’t make his point very well and that is why he has landed himself in bother.”

Patrick Hayes writes:

…if any angry dialogue aimed at a person with a different colour skin can now be interpreted by the cops as a ‘racially aggravated offence’, then swathes of daily interactions could be deemed racist. Indeed, if this is the only evidence backing up the charge, then it seems that the police may well be projecting their own racial prejudices on to the case.

Azhar Ahmed was responding to the deaths of six British soldiers in Afghanistan – Cpl Jake Hartley, 20, Pte Anthony Frampton, 20, and Pte Christopher Kershaw, 19, Pte Daniel Wade, 20, Pte Daniel Wilford, 21, and Sgt Nigel Coupe, 33 were killed when their Warrior MICV fighting vehicle struck an improvised explosive device. They were all white with non-Muslim names.

Hayes’ point is well made. If you want to look fo racism, look to the State…
