Jonathan Antoine wins Britain’s Got Talent – God smiles

by | 24th, March 2012

WHO is Britain Got Talent’s Jonathan Antoine, aka Jonathan Stavvy Antoine, of Jonathan and Charlotte? Will the Essex teenager (17) make it to Celebrity Big Brother? Will he be mated with Susan Boyle? Will he ditch Charlotte Jaconelli, 16, the fanciable sidekick who proves he is not socially inept and can befriend girls?

The Mail says Jonthan is “following in the footsteps of Susan Boyle”. To the fridge? No, to fame and fortune as the authentic face of manhood. It was Botox-studded Holden who told us of Boyle:

The minute we turn her into a glamour puss is when it’s spoiled. I won’t let Simon Cowell take her to his dentist and I certainly won’t let her near his hairdresser.”

As Slate’s Kerry Howley wrote:

‘I don’t know that turning Ms Boyle into some kind of statement about physical beauty is any more respectful of her autonomy than forcing her into a makeover…”

You might also recall the Sunday Times’s Minette Marrin who opined that with just ‘one song’ she ‘broke the grip of this sneering world’.

Having caught Simon Cowell’s sneer on camera, the Mail says Jonathan Antoine is “shy and overweight, with a halo of frizzy brown hair…an unlikely star.”

Oh puh-lease. He’s the identikit BGT player. And why is he shy? He;s just stood on the stage and sung a song with no obvious sign of nerves. Does frizzy hair make you shy? Did anyone tell Michael Jackson? And as got that halo of hairiness… SuBo was the Hairy Angel. And one Christian wrote:

‘The way we see Susan Boyle is very nearly the way God sees us: worthwhile, special, talented, unique, beautiful.”

The Mail says the “classically-trained singer opens his voice to perform The Prayer by Celine Dion…”

He opens his voice? Says Jonathan:

“I’ve always had a problem with my size since I can remember and when I was in primary school it was back then really that I had the mick taken out of me and it kind of damaged my confidence quite a bit. When people would say something to me, it would just take a little piece out of me in a sense.

“Charlotte’s been a really big help for me, in terms of confidence and making me a better performer and I really don’t think I would be going up on stage today if I didn’t have Charlotte by my side.”

See ya , Charlotte…
