Donna Air car parking ‘fraud’ and a matching Mini Cooper

by | 28th, March 2012

FORMER TV starlet and mo-del Donna Air had two parking permits for central London. You’re only allowed one per car. Is says so on the bottom of the permit application form you need to sign. But as well as the permit she had from Westminster, Donna Air has one for second home in Kensington and Chelsea. This second illegal permit cost her £110 a year.

At Isleworth Crown Court, Air sat in the dock. The Times says he was “dressed in a a cream chiffon blouse, brown skirt and brown shoes, with her blond hair clipped back”.

If Air is found not guilty, her outfit will be adopted by all plaintiffs in their bid for confirmed innocent.

A couple of other things stand out about this case:

1. Prosecutor Adrian Chaplin tells the court:

“Yes, it’s paper work, yes, it may be thought to be a burden on our time and yes, it’s an aspect which the local authority require us to jump through hoops to demonstrate we are entitled to a resident’s parking permit,” he told jurors. The fact that in the circumstances of this case such a permit would enable you to save up to £5,650 of what you would pay if you were otherwise parking the car in that part of Kensington and Chelsea on an ordinary non-resident’s parking space only goes to underline particularly what a gain it is. These are two central London boroughs with pressure on parking and a resident’s parking permit for either is a worthwhile thing to have. The issue is, when she signed the form, was she saying something that was misleading?”

That’s £5,650 to park your car outside your home! Not in it. Outside of it!

2. Donna Air dives a cream Mini Cooper. This begs the question: did she get her outfit before the car or her car before the outfit?

The case continues…
