Kurt Cobain recorded inevitably awful solo album before he blew his brains up

KURT COBAIN committed suicide and, for many, it was awful. The people who felt it most are those who are in their early thirties now because they were not only massive fans of Nirvana, but they were slightly too young to attend any of their gigs, leaving them in some terrible limbo.

Of course, the second Cobain pulled the trigger, he became exempt from criticism and ensured that his back catalogue would forever be held in the highest regard. Looking after the musical legacy however, is a combination of people who hate each other so much that you’d be forgiven for thinking that Kurt did himself a massive favour by fleeing the monstrous characters he would’ve had to live with.

However, before he died, Cobain apparently recorded a solo album. Eric Erlandson, who used to be in Hole, has said that he’s heard this solo material and is pretty sure that the tracks won’t see the light of day.

“[Cobain] was headed in a direction that was really cool,” Erlandson revealed. “It would have been his ‘White Album’. That’s really what he was going towards, a solo album but working with different people. I was really excited about some of the stuff he was working on. I got to see him play it in front of me. That’s why I was really sad when he died. He was cut short. Who knows where this music would have gone?”

But will someone cash-in on Cobain’s ghost and release these tunes? He continued: “I’m not in control of things. I just wish something would come together. I think the fans would be a lot happier. If nobody ever hears those songs, except for like three people, then that’s the way it goes. I heard some talk about somebody putting together some raw, rough acoustic thing. There is one cover. I won’t say what it is. I don’t own the stuff. I just hope that one day it will be released for fans. It’s just so heartbreaking. It’s not surprising. It’s a very sweet, just touching song.”

Are Grohl and Love actually agreed on one thing? That being; Cobain’s solo recordings are so catastrophically woeful that they don’t ever want them to see the light of day for fear of Kurt being found out to be a rather average musician with a penchant for terrible, half-baked 6th form lyrics?

Possibly.
