Army overlooks tower blocks in favour of yuppie flats for rooftop missile systems

AN update on those Army missile launchers soon to feature atop blocks of flats in Bow, east London. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) says the ground-based air defence systems could well be stationed on the residential apartment blocks, where they will manned by 10 Army personnel 24/7.

Journalist Brian Whelan, who tweeted the brochure sent to all residents in the block, asks: “Will this make me a target for terrorists?”

An MoD spokesman assures one and all:

“Based on military advice we have identified a number of sites and, alongside colleagues from the Metropolitan police, are talking to local authorities and relevant landowners to help minimise the impact of any temporary deployments…However, no final decision on whether or not to deploy ground-based air defence systems for the Games has been taken.”

Why not stick the batteries on the Barbican and other ugly tower blocks and leave the yuppies alone? Come friendly bombs. Give it your best shot. Unless Wheelan’s manor is full of merchant bankers, in which case, let’s put it to the popular vote.

Here are a  few local London eyesore the Army can terrorists can play games on:

Barbrook House
Scotney House
Exbury House
Holden Point

More suggestions?
