Dad finds son’s tortured turtle 45 years after it was branded and released

by | 7th, May 2012

HOLLAND Cokeley has found a turtle in South Strabane, Washington County, garden. On the underside he reads the message “JC 1965”. He tells us:

“I picked it up, and I thought ‘Oh geez, this is Jeff’s turtle!’. It’s been here for 47 years, and it still has the same the same markings on it!”

Jeff is Holland’s son, who when aged 13 caught the wild animal and carved his initials into its shell. (1965 might be the last time dad cut the grass.)

Pittsburgh CBS reports:

Jeff Cokeley…began laughing when his dad sent him pictures of the turtle…

Is this a laughing matter? Is catching wild animals and branding them fun? Jeff Coakely lives in New York, we learn. And if we had to guess, we’d say he worked in the world of celebrity endorsements. If he doesn’t, it is marketing’s great loss.
