Is @Rileyy_69 the victim of a Twithunt? Racist tweeters want teenage boy raped for Tom Daly tweets

by | 31st, July 2012

DORSET-based twitter user @Rileyy_69, 17, was so upset that Tom Daly failed to win a Olympics medal for diving that he tweeted the teenage sportsman:

“You let your dad down I hope you know that.”

Rob Daley was his son’s mentor. The 40-year-old died of brain cancer in May 2011.

Daley retweeted that. He added:

“After giving it my all… you get idiots sending me this.”

@Rileyy69 wrote back:

“I’m sorry mate i just wanted you to win cause its the olympics I’m just annoyed we didn’t win I’m sorry tom accept my apology.”

That might have bene the end of it. But twitter is an illiberal place where non-compliant views are not tolerated. A Twithunt ensued. A petition to have @Rileyy_69 booted from twitter garnered over 13,000 signatures.

@Rileyy_69 was unhappy, telling @_OllyRiley:

“Come on then you cunt i’ll stick a knife down your fuckin throat now comeback and stop hiding from me.”

And:

@tomdaley1994 i’m going to find you and i’m going to drown you in the pool you cocky twat your a nobody people like you make me sick

And:

@_ollyriley i dont give a shit bruv i’m gonna drown him and i’m gonna shoot you he failed why you suporting him you cunt

And:

@skynews you fucking report me on the news again i’ll have you done for harrassment and a lawsuit you get me final chance you cunts

He seems to have made a video:

Another video purporting to be of the idiot attracts comments like:

HA HA HA LOL WHAT A MONG – MrTom654321

Wow he’s a twat. Hope he dies – ProPancakess

@Rileyy_69 later added:

“OMG its in the newspapers”.

And:

“night everyone and im genuinely sorry for what’s happened today just know that im actually a really nice person and i regret what I’ve said.”

So. At 2.45 at a Weymouth guest house the teenager was arrested by idiots from Dorset Police. the youth has been arrested on suspicion of malicious communications.

Simon Reed, deputy chairman of the Police Federation, says the police are “having to make it up as they go along…What is needed is some clear guidance from the CPS or the Attorney General about where the line is drawn. We can’t have a free for all online but by the same token we cannot involve the police every time something unpleasant is said.”

“There is legislation which concerns causing harassment, alarm or distress. So if you are walking down the street and someone shouts abuse the law is there to deal with it. But can we police every incident on the internet when someone upsets someone else? I don’t think we have the resources to do that.”

Unless it’s racism, in which the police are all ears.Tweeters have dug out this tweet:

@Rileyy_69: the Riley’s rule this roost not letting some paki cunt think he’s better than us fuck that

Dorset police tell media:

“Regarding tweets to @tomdaley1994 — we are aware of the issue and we are actively looking into it… A 17-year-old man was arrested by Dorset Police officers in the early hours this morning at a guesthouse in the Weymouth area on suspicion of malicious communications. He is currently helping police with their inquiries.”

Chief Constable Stuart Hyde, ACPO spokesman on social media, adds:

“Social media is increasingly part of police business and the law covers situations where you have comments that go way beyond legitimate opinion and are intended to cause deliberate upset. We have had many such cases which do not involve a celebrity. We don’t just deal with people who are famous, that’s not the way we do business. People have the right to freedom of speech but it has to be within the law.”

The bilge continues. British boxer Paul Smith tweeted:

“That lad tweeting Tom Daley deserves a hiding. But what’s he done to be arrested. It’s wrong. There’s racists all over twitter, untouched.”

He later added:

“I’ve had gobshites threatening to shoot me on here. Nothing happened. If it was a comedian, nothing would have happened involving the police.”

Emma West may care to comment.

Here are a few of the views of twitter users who are not under arrest:

David Speed™ @DaveySpeed – That Riley deserves nothing more than the fierce anal rape he’s gonna get in prison. Jumped up little cunt. @Rileyy_69
Jonathan McCall ‏@JonnyMcNarwhal – If anyone happens to know someone who will anally rape for money, I would like to rent them for @rileyy_69
DAYUM AFRICA ‏@chloe_woodhead – Hope @Rileyy_69 even only gets like a week in prison just for someone to bum rape the crap out of him #skank
Shaed m ‏@ShaedM – I’d knock your mum out for giving birth to you.
And the delightfiully racist and annally obsessed:
J.WELL∆RD ‏@JackWellard aha @Rileyy_69 has been arrested! hope some black bloke with a 14 inch cock ruins you arse!

It’s all about being right-on, isn’t it, showcasing on twitter how au fait with the proscribed mood you are. Take the bullshit feast that has followed one tweet from Tory MP Aidan Burley. He said the London Olympics opening ceremony was “leftie multicultural crap“.

Burley was last spotted at a Nazi-themed stag do in France. The man is a dislikable tosser. But get this from the Independent, which saw the tweet, spotted the show that celebrated diversity and free thought and said Burley was  making the ill-advised move of publishing his thoughts”. How’s that for freedom? In yer face, Beijing!

Labour MP Tristram Hunt aid Burley had an incompatibility with modern Britain. You know, that place where diversity is the watchword. “David Cameron should show some leadership and demand a full apology from Aidan Burley immediately,” Labour MP Michael Dugher said. The Labour Party has launched a campaign called “Bye Bye Burley“.

The opening ceremony was surely political – “NHS” was displayed like a slogan. But the central message about freedom, self-expression and a union of disparate voices under a common flag is only ok if we all agree with the prevailing view.
That @Rileyy_69 is an arsehole seems clear. Using him to show your moralistic indignation is pathetic.
