MOSCOW is protesting a tad too much methinks. The city’s court has upheld a ban on gay pride marches – a ban that will last 100 years (or until Russia’s eternal President Putin is kissed by a handsome prince).

Nikolai Alekseev, a gay activist, had challenged a century ban on gay parades in Moscow. Moscow City Court upheld the ban. Says Alexeyev:

“Now we will soon appeal against the Russian authorities to ban Moscow Pride for a hundred years ahead of the European Court of Human Rights. Thus we achieve the recognition of wrongful bans not only past but future Gay Pride in Moscow. “

And that’s not all:

In March, in St. Petersburg, came into force on the resonant law banning promotion of homosexuality and pedophilia among minors

Gays and paedophilia. Linking the two is a revolting slight on all homosexuals.

In April, the court fined the Archangel Alekseev and two other activists for the promotion of homosexuality. According to the Interior region, they were arrested in January with posters of “Homosexuality – is a healthy form of sexuality.” Also in April, Alexeyev were detained in front of the Smolny in St.Petersburg with a placard on which was written quote famous Soviet actress Faina Ranevskaya: “Homosexuality – it’s not a perversion. Distortion – it’s hockey and the ballet on ice”.

And:

Gay activist Nikolai Alexeyev was fined two thousand rubles for the promotion of homosexuality in Arkhangelsk. “I paid the penalty for gay propaganda. At this time, two thousand rubles for a picket in Arkhangelsk. Total given a penalty in St. Petersburg, 175 euros, “- wrote the activist his microblog on Twitter.

What say the people?

According to the survey, “Levada-Center”, the majority of Russians would like to see in Russian cities were regularly gay parades… The survey showed that over the past two years, in part, Russians changed their attitude toward same-sex marriages. In 2010, 84% of citizens spoke against allowing gay marriage in Russia, and 14% – for. At present, same-sex marriage speaks 10% of Russians.

Pussy Riot. And now this…
