Cuddly dogs shoots owner on deer hunt

THE Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night-Time, Mark Haddon’s best-selling book, is to made into a stage play. In that book, the dog dies. In the Dordogne, south-western France, a dog has fired a gun and blown off part of his owner’s huntsman’s right hand, causing the entire thing to be amputated.

Rene (the owner) tells France Bleu radio:

“It wasn’t the dog’s fault – and he’s adorable!”

Rene and the dog, a Blue Gascony Basset hound, were out hunting deer. Says Rene (not the dog):

“…he jumped on me to give me a cuddle, I think. As he jumped, he put a paw on the gun.”

Yeah, a cuddle. We can believe it because the creature was a dog. Had it been a hunting cat, questions would have been asked…
