This collection of odd 1970s family photos is a cultural artefact

THE 1970s family unit was recorded in a palette of all the brown and those pukey colours that inspired the modern alcopops. Life seems hard-edged. Hair is unforgiving. Spectacles are gigantic, face-hiding bins. Socks are always – always – pulled up. Men seem older. Mothers looks younger. At least one of these photos would get you arrested if you had it processed today. Back then, it didn’t. Probanly:
