Lindsey Stone: Woman fired for making a joke on Facebook

by | 28th, November 2012

JOKES are serious business. We live in a world so jumpy that you can make a clearly off-hand remark about blowing an airport up and you end up in a lengthy legal process, with celebrities backing you up and paying for your legal fees. Elsewhere in the world, say anything bad about the people who fought for your right to piss-about, and you’ll get your arse handed to you in a tall hat.

Just ask the woman who has been unceremoniously sacked from her job for the awful hate crime of posting a photograph on Facebook.

Lindsey Stone was photographed giving the finger while stood beside a ‘silence and respect’ sign at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. The image promptly went viral and thousand of humourless git-machines started kicking off and demanding heads-on-pikes.

And according to the Boston Herald, Stone quickly apologised and removed the picture, saying:

“Whoa whoa whoa… wait. This is just us, being the douchebags that we are, challenging authority in general. Much like the pic posted the night before, of me smoking right next to a no smoking sign. OBVIOUSLY we meant NO disrespect to people that serve or have served our country.”

That doesn’t wash with the steely-glaring nincompoops that clutter this normally reasonable world up, who all hopped around, screaming blue murder in the shape of a hastily set-up group called ‘Fire Lindsey Stone’. That’s right. People who believe in justice and retribution wanted a woman to lose her livelihood after she made a joke that some berks didn’t like.

Stone and the photographer Jamie Schuh were both let go by their employer, and they had to make a statement which said: “We deeply regret any disrespect to members of the military and their families.”

Of course, she should’ve taken a photo of herself defecating on whoever started the ‘Fire Laura Stone’ group, while dressed as a soldier, and had done with it. We hope she sues.

The pitchforks are coming.
