South Africa’s ‘Thighs of a Virgin’ school protests name change

by | 5th, December 2012

TO South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, where KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Senzo Mchunu wants 15 schools renamed.

Why? Well, take the KwaZulu-Natal school called Mathangetshitshi. That’s Zulu for “thighs of a virgin“. It was so called in honour of Chief Nhleko, “whose thighs were admired by local residents“.

Other schools to be renamed:

Bambinkuzu (pickpocket)

Phuza (drink)

Nkawu (monkey)

Tilongo (prison)

Says Mchunu:

“We will negotiate with the villagers to provide us with alternative names in the interests of education.”

King Goodwill Zwelithini’s spokesman Prince Mbonisi Zulu is displeased:

“We would not be happy if a part of Zulu history was erased without consulting the royal household”.

The school’s deputy principal Muziwenhlanhla Buthelezi adds:

“In fact, we are proud of it and its history… It’s unique and we do not feel there is anything  inappropriate about it.”

He then said he had to because the virgins kids were waiting for him in the Lucy Sweet Buttocks Library…
