Shergar’s DNA found in Burger King burgers and Waitrose pork pies?

“SHERGAR KING!” yell the Sun. Burger King is to “dump millions of burgers in dodgy meat alert.”

Managers have been told to box up Whoppers, Angus burgers and patties in a safe area and mark them with an X to ensure they are not sold to customers.

Indeed. Why has such horse shit been passed off news? It’s because the Sun knows how much we fret about food. A smidgeon of DNA was found at ABP Foods’ Silvercrest meat processing factory in Ireland. No-one was hurt. Well aside from the horses.

The better story would have been to had the DNA analysed to see if it did, indeed, match Shergar’s, the champion horse stolen by masked gunmen in Ireland.

So. What’s in our burgers? Let;s just look aay formt eh budget foods sold at Asda, Tesco and Burger King (we know it’s not the best cuts of meat) and take a gander at what passes for beef at Waitrose:

Heston from Waitrose Lamb & Coriander Sausages 300gLamb (71%), Pork Shoulder (13%), Breadcrumb, Water, Preserved Lemon, Salt, Ground Spices (Coriander and White Pepper), Chopped Mint, Red Chilli, Preservative Sodium Metabisulphite, Antioxidant Sodium Ascorbate, Rose Water.

Smoked Venison Pate Waitrose 150g: Venison Liver (17%), Pork Fat, White Sugar, Duck Liver, Smoked Venison (8%), Orange Juice, Water, Redcurrants, Venison (5%), Rice Starch, Port (4%), Maize Dextrose, Red Wine Vinegar, White Onion, Salt, Gelling Agent Agar, Locust Bean Gum and Pectin, Dried Free Range Egg White, Tapioca Starch, Garlic Purée, Thyme, White Wine Vinegar, Antioxidant Sodium Ascorbate, Lemon Zest, Orange Zest, Black Pepper, Juniper Berries, Preservative Sodium Nitrite, Smoked Venison contains Venison, Salt, Muscovado Sugar, Preservative Sodium Nitrite

Heston from Waitrose Duck Sausage with Sour Cherries 300g:  Duck (45%), Pork Shoulder (39%), Dried Sour Cherries (7%), Breadcrumbs, Water, Salt, Chopped Parsley, Ground Spices (Ginger, White Pepper, Cinnamon, Mace, Nutmeg and Pimento), Preservative Sodium Metabisulphite.

No horse, but lots of other meats mingled in with your pricey venison and designer lamb sausages.

It’s all dead animals. Whatever way you dice it…
