Cats to be culled in New Zealand?

by | 25th, January 2013

ANYONE who has ever used Instagram or Facebook, will be thoroughly sick of the sight of people’s stupid cats. They’re everywhere at the moment, with childless hipster couples treating the feline fur-gits like they’re human babies or something.

Well, someone in New Zealand hates cats more than anyone else. So much so that they want them banned from the whole of NZ, which is clearly a brilliant move.

The environmentalist Gareth Morgan, who runs Cats To Go, wants to save New Zealand’s native birds by ridding the nation of all puddy tats. Of course, cat-lovers are up in arms, crying into their litter trays and invariably saying things like “…but why would anyone want to hurt wickle Snuffly Puff Puff and is wickle gorgeous face… ooohh look at him… he’s so adorable… that cheeky wickle face! OOOH COME HERE! I WON’T LET ANYONE HURT YOU!

Naturally, Cats To Go doesn’t want to go around shooting cats in the face (shame), but rather, has stated that owners shouldn’t replace their pet when it dies and euthanasia ‘is an option’.

At Cats To Go, it is stated:

“The little ball of fluff you own is a natural born killer… every year cats in New Zealand destroy our native wildlife. The fact is that cats have to go if we really care about our environment. There is no doubt that cats do a massive amount of damage to our wildlife. In the interest of protecting native species would you consider not replacing your cat with a new one when it dies?”

And New Zealand just so happens to have one of the highest cat ownership rates in the world.

Bob Kerridge, head of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, told Mr Morgan to “butt out of our lives”, adding “don’t deprive us of the beautiful companionship that a cat can provide individually and as a family.”

Stupid Bob Kerridge.
