not to make any effort to speak the language in a country where you are settling is just plain ignorant, wherever that is.
but never mind language lessons, it seems like Ms O’Grady is in dire need of a bit of help with her maths….

Just look at the expat British in Spain or Portugal who cannot speak a bloody word.
When in need of help from local services they are stuffed.
The locals then don’t like the British because no attempt is made to adapt.
