Arsenal only spend big when the season tickets are up for renewal

by | 18th, February 2013

GOOD news for Arsenal fans. It will take an £100m investment in players for the Gunners to compete for the Premier League title, and Arsene Wenger has £70m to splurge in the summer. It’s a start. The Telegraph’s Jeremy Wilson states:

Around £70 million will be available for squad strengthening this summer, with Arsenal targeting “three or four” players, including a genuinely world-class striker to fill the void that has been left by Robin van Persie.

But hold on a moment. We’ve been here before:

Feb 18 2012 – Daily Mirror: Arsenal are “sitting on a £57million transfer kitty”.

February 16, 2011 – Jeremy Wilson in the Daily Telegraph says Arsenal have a “player budget of around £40 million this summer and will be allowed to spend it how he chooses”.

Incidentally, in February 2012, Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis announced:

“Supporters wishing to renew Club Level season tickets have until April 10, 2012 to guarantee their seats for next season. The process for supporters to renew Gold Level season tickets will start in April.”

The previous year’s announcement was made on May 4th.

Season tickets for season 2013-14 are already being offered for renewal.

Buy now! Arsenal will spend later. PROMISE!*

*  Money must be paid in full with no refunds. Should Arsenal decide to sell their best players and buy some cheaper alternatives.
