Jon Venables: the sexting tapes

by | 4th, March 2013

LET’S see how this one pans out: the Sun follows up its news that Jon Venables, one of James Bulger’s killers, once sent a picture of his penis to a woman he’d been flirting with online.

Sexting is pretty much the norm. But when you’re Jon Venables, who killed a very young child when he was a ten-year-old – an act the trial judge called “unparalleled evil” – the thing takes on meaning. So. One day after Ralph Bulger, James Bulger’s father, said the sexting was a sign that Venables was a danger, the Sun quotes the victim’s mother, Denise Fergus.

The mum of James Bulger yesterday demanded that her son’s killer Jon Venables should be prosecuted over X-rated images.

No. Not the images police found on Venables’ computer, which led him back to prison. This is about that picture of his “manhood” that he felt able to show his online pen pal.

Denise Fergus wants cops to investigate claims by single mum Sarah Finn, 36, that 30-year-old Venables sent her snaps of his manhood over the internet.

Yesterday , it was one photograph. Today it is “snaps“. The paper tells us:

Sending indecent pictures online without consent of the recipient carries a maximum six-month sentence.

Well, if Ms Finn wants to show the Sun and the police the full chat logs about her relationship with the man she now knows to have been Venables, they can investigate. Will Ms Finn, 36, do so?

Denise, 45, said: “What Venables did to this young woman is not only disgusting, but it is also against the law. I’m grateful to this woman for coming forward and I would like her to be brave enough to make a complaint to police. I’m certainly going to ask the police to investigate.”

Utter nonsense, of course. Denise Fergus and Ralph Bulger want Venables punished severely. They, understandably, want the man who tortured and killed their to suffer. But if sexting a 36-year-old woman is disgusting, what about the Sun’s adverts for sex phone lines? Is the Sun as disgusting as Venables?

All we know is that for a while they talked and “flirted” online. He sent her a photo of his penis that “shocked her”. She wrote back “Ew, that’s not yours is it?”, and continued to chat to him. They carried on an online relationship until he went quiet.

And that’s it. Unless your Venables, the child who became part of the State’s new rehab experiment…
