Lee Chun-shing, 30, adds:

“The duck represents happiness for us. It was the highlight of this place, but now the highlight is deflated, of course everyone is disappointed.”

The huge yellow rubber duck was the work of Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. Since 2007 the 16.5-meter (54-feet)-tall Rubber Duck has traveled to various cites including Osaka, London, Sydney, Sao Paulo and Amsterdam. And then it hit Hong Kong and went down.

For a while, Hong Kong was gripped by duck mania.

The duck became an egg.

On a positive note, the duck was not inhabited by 35,000 Japanese soldiers.

Update: The duck was deflated for scheduled maintenance work.
