OK! sued over photo pretending a ramdon child was Jessica Simpson’s newborn daughter

by | 11th, June 2013

jessica ok babyIN OK!’s front-page story from April 16, 2012, Jessica Simpson “opens up about her beautiful girl. It’s all illustrated by a picture of Simpson snuggling a baby. No. Not hers. This baby – a boy also Christopher – belongs to Christopher Hurst and Tracy Gregory of Louisiana. And being Americans, they’ve responded in the way their country demands: they’re suing  Simpson, OK! Magazine and Getty Images for using the photo of their child without their permission.

The picture was from way back in 2011, when Simpson was at the Dillard’s outlet in Metairie. While waiting to meet Simpson, the Christopher Senior and his teenage daughter were offered the chance for a private picture of Jessica and their baby son. The man from Getty snapped away.

The Times-Picayune reports on the appeal:

“In the case of Christopher Hurst, OK! magazine paid him nothing, despite clear intention to mislead some or all of the consuming public into believing the photograph on the cover of the subject issue was actually Simpson’s first child.”

They claim Jessica “knew that she would appear on front of the magazine with Christopher in her arms and that she had financial motive through the publicity she received.”

Christopher and Tracy want… $75,000.

Seems reasonable. But we’d ask for more. The stigma of being mistaken for Simpson’s child could remain with Christopher Junior for years. Therapy bills like lawyer’s fees are pricey.

PS:  Simpson gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Maxwell Drew Johnson, on May 1, 2012. The Hursts might also sue any OK! readers stupid enough to think that her baby was available for a photoshoot for the April issue.

PPS – the story was not about the actual baby. It was about the baby’s room.

Jessica, 31 and her fiancé Eric Johnson, 32, “spared no expense on what she’s calling her ‘couture nursery… She’s spent months planning out every detail, and it’s absolutely perfect!”

Decorated in white, pale green and gray, the suite is “very girly but not too frilly,” Jessica herself reveals. Outfitted with a fireplace, luxurious drapes and organic linens from celebrity nursery designers Caden Lane, the suite features a white crib from PoshTots, a nursery chair and lots of baby-friendly toys, some given by friends and family in anticipation of Maxwell Drew’s arrival.

There’s an attached bathroom just for the baby, according to the insider, and even a walk-in closet…. “The diaper-changing area was specially constructed to help keep everything clean and sterile,” the insider reveals. “it’s very innovative.”

Yet, we can still smell something stinky….
