Transfer Balls: Wayne Rooney snubs Arenal for Chelsea and isn’t learning French

TRANSFER Balls: Anorak’s look at Wayne Rooney, the Manchester United striker. Will he go? Will be stay? Will he tie himself to a radiator and drink a glass of Terry Waite’s urine? Let’s see what the experts have said in the past 24 hours:

DNA: “New Manchester United boss David Moyes has reportedly secretly met Wayne Rooney to convince the concerned star to stay at the club”

Or as the Mail reports:

David Moyes officially began life as Manchester United manager on Monday but is increasingly resigned to the fact that Wayne Rooney’s Old Trafford career is coming to an end. It has emerged that the two men met before going on holiday earlier this summer, and the feeling is that if the conversation had gone well there would have been no need for a make-or-break summit this week that will also involve Rooney’s agent Paul Stretford and new United chief Ed Woodward.

But it did go well. The Sun cites Rooney “source”:

“It was an amicable meeting but it gave Wayne the chance to get a lot of things off his chest. There is little doubt the new boss wants to keep Wayne. Any suggestions the two don’t get on is complete rubbish.”

The Mirror is on a different page:

David Moyes will meet Wayne Rooney this week – and believes he will persuade the striker to stay at Manchester United. Champions United have already turned down one approach from Arsenal for Rooney and are bracing themselves for another from Chelsea.

Moyes determination not to sell to a direct rival leaves Paris Saint-Germain as Rooney’s only realistic destination overseas, but it is believed he is not enthusiastic about uprooting his young family and moving to France.

New manager Moyes is prepared to give Rooney the assurances he wants – that he will not be hauled off or overlooked for the big games like he was last season under Ferguson

The Daily Telegraph says Neymar is “urging” Rooney to join him at Barcelona:

“Of course he would improve Barcelona. He would improve any club in Europe. And on a personal level, it would be a dream to play with him.”

The Daily Star says it is Arsenal who have put their money on the table, offering £20m for Rooney. Jack Wilshere is happy with that:

And With £20m being offered for Rooney and £19m also on the table for Real Madrid ace Higuain, boss Arsene Wenger’s ambition for the new season has been revealed.

Speaking to Espn, Wilshere revealed his thoughts on the Manchester United ace’s potential transfer and what a massive boost it would have on the team.

He said: “If it happens, it would be amazing. He is the type of player who can win you trophies – and just to see his name on the team sheet brings fear to the opposition. We could do with a little more of that. You look at the type of players like Higuain we are trying to bring in and you have got to be encouraged. I think we need a few more, not to step right into the team, but to add to the squad.”

The Mirror says the Daily Star is not making it up. Arsenal have tabled a £20m bid for the Rooney.

But Daily Star adds that Arsenal will be outbid for Rooney.

The Telegraph swiftly adds: “Chelsea prepare to offer £20m for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.”

Isn’t £20m the same as the Arsenal bid?

Whatever the money, the Telegraph says Chelsea are favourites to land him:

Although several clubs have been tracking the unsettled England striker, it is understood that Rooney is most attracted by the prospect of joining Jose Mourinho, a coach he has long admired, at Stamford Bridge.

Heat says Rooney’s preparations for next season are going well:

Wayne Rooney and Coleen spend £2k on Pot Noodles and vodka at Glasto

He’s spent his money on worse.
