TRANSFER Balls: A look at Aston Villa’s want away striker Christian Benteke in the news media:

July 16

The above message is doing the rounds on the web.

In other news.

Liverpool have also made an enquiry for Benteke while Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is considering an offer for the forward, who went on strike last summer to force through his €9m transfer from Genk. – Goal.com

So. Chelsea and Liverpool want Benteke? He’s not gone to Spurs, then?

Chelsea player Eden Hazard is talking:

He told The Express: “Benteke is my friend, we get on very well. His dream is to play even higher. As for his decision, I feel it’s the right one because he has the quality to impose himself wherever, to make his mark at any club.

“I wasn’t surprised [that he handed in a transfer request]. We speak all the time and he told me, ‘Right, I’ve done well. What next?’ I believe he has got all the attributes to do well at a big club.”

The Sports Mole adds:

The 22-year-old scored 19 times for Villa last season, top scoring for Lambert’s side in his debut Premier League campaign.

The Daily Mirror has more:

Belgium striker Benteke, who smashed 23 goals to save Villa from relegation last term in his debut season of English football, slapped in a transfer request last week.

Neither sites are correct. Benteke hit 19 Premier League goals for Villa in 2012-13. His four League Cup goals – he scored 23 in all competitions – did not rescue Villa for another season of struggle.

The forward is currently back home in Belgium and is anxious for Tottenham to table an offer soon – Daily Mirror

No offer made, then? And it’s Spurs all the way.

Villa are demanding £25million and while Spurs haven’t made a formal offer for the 22-year-old striker, they have made a tentative proposal of £20m – Evening Standard

When is a proposal not an offer?

July 14

WANTAWAY Christian Benteke runs the risk of sitting on the bench all season if he upsets no-nonsense Paul Lambert

He’s going nowhere. And the Daily Star says the Belgian wants to play for, well, pretty much anyone in London:

Benteke is a £25million target for Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs and the race for the forward’s services will hot up after he handed in a transfer request last week.

July 13

Tottenham are hoping to tempt Aston Villa into accepting a bid for Christian Benteke by offering the Midlands club their choice from four of the club’s stars according to The Sun.

Bale, Lennon, Defoe and Sandro?

The club are ready to let at least one of Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Scott Parker, Jake Livermore and Tom Huddlestone leave as part of a deal to bring Benteke to White Hart Lane.

Top stars?

July 11

Christian Benteke, the 22-year-old Congo international, has recently submitted a transfer request at Villa Park.

Benteke was born in Kinshasa in 1990. His family moved to Belgian when he was young. It is Belgium not Congo he represents in international football.

Currently, he is being chased by the Blues and Tottenham, but it seems Benteke does not consider that his future lies at Stamford Bridge.

The striker’s agent, Eris Kismet, went as far as claiming that the probability of his client signing for Chelsea is as good as signing for ‘Turkse Rangers’, an amateur seventh division Belgian team. – SportsKeeda

Aston Villa demand £30m from Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal for Christian Benteke – ASTON VILLA have responded to Christian Benteke’s transfer request by putting a £30million price tag on the Belgium striker to deter bidders –  Daily Express

Such are the facts.

More transfer balls every day…
