Stupid rescuers bring record-breaking Welsh dolphin swim to an end

THE popular legend tells us that dolphins are bright. But how intelligent are they?

One dolphin swam 30 miles up the the River Dee at Saltney Ferry on the outskirts of Chester. WalesOnline tells us that the beast was lost “after taking a wrong turning and swimming up a river”.

Ho do they know that it was lost?

The RNLI hauled Davina the dolphin onboard and transported her out to sea.

Whenever Anorak reads one of these stories we wonder if the rescuers just stopped a world record attempt. Davina was aiming to break the in-land swimming record of 56 miles, set by the great Dolphin Dave Shackleton in 1897. Davina would then emerge from the water and go on a ten yard jog before riding a bike to Liverpool.

But some do-gooders hooked her from the waters and ruined years of careful planning and training.
